Teaching 2 D shapes to class one children using ICT

On 5th September I taught 2-D shapes to class one children using projector as children love to see things than to listen from us. First I revised the names of 2 D shapes as children already know the shape name. Then I talked about the vertices/corners and sides of the shape. After that I made children to watch short video on corners and sides for each 2 D shapes.

I played the video using projector and made children to watch carefully as they have to do the activity after watching the video. I found out that all the children were listening attentively and watching the video.

After watching the video we had question and answer session .Children were asked to tell verbally the number of corners and sides each 2 D shape has. Then I made them to do the activity on page number 50 of their activity book where they have to fill in the numbers of corners and sides for the given 2 D shapes.

I found out that every child did the activity so well which shows that they understood the concept well. Our children learn better when we use ICT as they get the concept clear by looking at the demo from video. So I feel that it’s better to use ICT sometimes in our teaching as children enjoy learning.

Moreover, small kids love watching video.

  8. Wow I am planning to teach properties of 3-D shapes to my children using video and it's really interesting that you have taught 2-D shapes using PowerPoint presentation.
It was also encouraging to know that it has more impact than merely using old style of using chalk and chalkboard in mathematics lesson.

  10. Video lesson is one tool that really assisst us in the classroom. At one time, some one told me not to use loud voice while teaching, " you may get throat cancer". Now with the help of ICT, I think we dont need to use much of our voice. Anyways nice lesson mam.

  16. You have rightly pointed out that children loves to see things practically than our lecture. Besides children will surely get clear ideas and concept of 2 D shapes through audio visual. In the 21st century it always better to take advantages of ict in our classroom teaching and learning make use of it. Eventually it will benifit our learner at large!!!
