2nd blog for October Month

On 21st October, I taught class one, English and the topic was use of water. Since it was a block period of 40 minutes each, I designed variety of activities to arose my children’s interest in learning. First I brainstorm to see how much children know about the uses of water. After that I made them to talk with their partners about the uses of water. Then I made one or two pairs to present to the whole class.
Then I gave one smart phone to each group and I asked them to look for more examples of uses of water using the Google apps.I made them to talk within their group by looking at the information from the Google. From that I learned that children were very interested to look for more information. I made them to browse turn wise by letting every child to use the phone once. Then we discussed the uses of water with the whole class.

After that I asked them to write at least five uses of water in our daily life. To my surprise children came out with more than five uses of water which shows that they have learned more by using ICT as they were given smart phones to look for more examples. Our children are more advanced when it comes to the use of ICT.

Lastly as a home work I told them to look for more uses of water at home by using smart phone as their parents have at home. I informed their parents about the homework through class we chat. Nowadays we can always disseminate any information to our parents through class we chat. So I conclude here by saying our children learn more and faster through ICT use.

ICT integration for October Month

ICT integration for October Month

AS I was wondering how to make my children to use ICT, today I got substitution class in VA that too it was IT period. The idea came to my mind that it would be the best time for me to write this reflection. So I took my children to the IT lab.I asked them what they want to do, to my surprise they told me that they want to browse and some wants to play game, some wants to make some pictures. So I agreed with them and I told them to put on the monitor. To my surprise I saw some children facing problem to log in, I helped them.

I gave them the freedom to play according to their interest as my main intention was to make them gain control over mouse and to gain confident. As I went around I saw some children facing difficulty, so I made their peer to help them. I found out that peer helping really works as they feel free to ask their friends. I found out that some children are far more advanced when it comes to use of ICT.

After that I made some weaker children to sit in pair to play so that their friend can help them. Though I didn’t have the plan as it was substitution class yet I was satisfied with what I did as children did something which adds extra knowledge in their ICT use. Children were fully engaged in carrying out the activity.
So my dear friends if we get substitution and if we don’t have lesson plan we can always make best use of the available ICT.

Use of ICT in Teaching Learning Materials.

I taught names of vegetables to class one children on 16th September, in this lesson I used ICT to show the students the pictures of vegetables. Before the lesson I browsed internet, selected best examples and saved in my smart phone. I showed the pictures of vegetables saved in my phone and explained to them as very limited examples were provided in their work book. Children could directly differentiate by looking at the pictures; it benefited a lot as they got clear information.
broccoli
asparagus
bitter gourd

cabbage

pumpkin

carrot

Pictures downloaded from my smart phone for children to see.

I showed pictures from my phone to each group which I took little time to show to all the groups but on the other hand it saved my time as I don’t have to draw the pictures. Our children enjoy looking at real pictures than our drawings. More over our smart phone is very handy we can use anywhere at any time. Whenever we are in doubt we can always use our smart phone.  Our children get an opportunity to see what they haven’t seen before

Then I made them to do the activity on page no 28, I was quite surprised to see my children could do the activity without my guidance as they got clear information. So our children learn better through visual than just verbal. We can always make best use of our smart phone when our projector is not in working condition.

But I could not make my class children to use their own smart phone in the class as our school policy does not allow the use of smart phone in the school. As a home work I provided the link in the class we chat and asked their parents to help their children to look for more examples of vegetables at home.

Teaching 2 D shapes to class one children using ICT

On 5th September I taught 2-D shapes to class one children using projector as children love to see things than to listen from us. First I revised the names of 2 D shapes as children already know the shape name. Then I talked about the vertices/corners and sides of the shape. After that I made children to watch short video on corners and sides for each 2 D shapes.

I played the video using projector and made children to watch carefully as they have to do the activity after watching the video. I found out that all the children were listening attentively and watching the video.

After watching the video we had question and answer session .Children were asked to tell verbally the number of corners and sides each 2 D shape has. Then I made them to do the activity on page number 50 of their activity book where they have to fill in the numbers of corners and sides for the given 2 D shapes.

I found out that every child did the activity so well which shows that they understood the concept well. Our children learn better when we use ICT as they get the concept clear by looking at the demo from video. So I feel that it’s better to use ICT sometimes in our teaching as children enjoy learning.

Use of ICT in teaching rhymes to my children

The children learn better when we use something different strategies in our teaching and learning. As we all know that we have to teach many rhymes to our primary children as part of their text in English lesson. So on 20th August i taught rhymes to my class one student “There was a farmer who had a dog’. I made my children to sit in a circle and told them that we are going to sing a rhyme. First I made them to look and listen carefully to the rhymes played from my laptop.

When I played the rhyme from my laptop I saw many smiling faces and they were really enjoying it. When we teach rhymes singing by our self we can hardly teach one tune only but if we teach by using ICT we can have many tunes for the same rhymes. I played three different types of tunes for the rhyme. Children really enjoyed listening to the different tunes for the same rhyme. As I never taught different tunes for one rhyme my children were quite surprised to see rhyme with different tunes.

After listening to the three different tunes I asked them to choose the best tune they want to sing. Then I made them to sing all together with the action like in the laptop. I learned that children picked up the tune more quickly when they listen to the rhyme that is shown with action and pictures with music. They really had fun in learning through the use of ICT than when we sing to them. All most all the children could sing confidently with correct tunes which made my work easier as I don’t have to shout to control my class. For the children who need to practice more I told them to browse that rhymes at home as many of their parents has smart phone at home.

I learned that our children learn faster through ICT use and it reduces our work load. We don’t have to worry about the tunes and our voice. Our children take interest in learning when we use ICT. Lastly if we are not sure about the tunes for our rhymes we can always look for the correct tunes.

Use of ICT in my Classroom Teaching and learning

Integrating ICT in teaching and learning refers to the process of determining which products and process of ICT should be appropriate for the given classroom, situation and problems. Nowadays it is widely accepted that ICT are used in every steps of education. Technology acts as a catalyst in children, provides social interaction and moreover provides additional opportunities for a rich learning environment that is consistent with modern times. ICT is important in primary schools because it can help kids to achieve better results in other subjects and to find what they need and use information in particular ways. It is important that children become familiar with ICT at an early age, because they will need those skills for the reminder of their education and adult life.

With the change in time so technology is must at this present world. Before we use to make our children’s result in hard copy only, but now with the ICT we can prepare our result in soft copy .I prepared my class result in soft copy, for the first time I found it little difficult to use result soft copy as we were not familiar with all the formulas. As we go on using it I found it very easy and handy, we doesn’t have to write till our hand pains and it is easy to make changes too. Moreover everything is auto generated we don’t have to prepare separate consolidated result for our mid-term Examination.

While using result soft first I filled in the information than in the SAFA keeping in mind all the marks. Then I entered the marks for each subjects one by one. I made few changes according to my class strength. By using result soft it saved my time as I could finish within short duration. It is very helpful when we have large class strength in our class, though I have 37 children in my class yet I could prepare within short duration.

Lastly preparing result in  soft has many advantages, it saves times and it’s easy to use as some of our children and parents are careless in case of lost we can always provide the copy if we use result soft. We can have easy excess for future reference and the documentation. Use of ICT makes our life more comfortable so it’s our role to keep our self-up-to-date with trending technology.
