Use of ICT in teaching rhymes to my children


The children learn better when we use something different strategies in our teaching and learning. As we all know that we have to teach many rhymes to our primary children as part of their text in English lesson. So on 20th August i taught rhymes to my class one student “There was a farmer who had a dog’. I made my children to sit in a circle and told them that we are going to sing a rhyme. First I made them to look and listen carefully to the rhymes played from my laptop.


When I played the rhyme from my laptop I saw many smiling faces and they were really enjoying it. When we teach rhymes singing by our self we can hardly teach one tune only but if we teach by using ICT we can have many tunes for the same rhymes. I played three different types of tunes for the rhyme. Children really enjoyed listening to the different tunes for the same rhyme. As I never taught different tunes for one rhyme my children were quite surprised to see rhyme with different tunes.

After listening to the three different tunes I asked them to choose the best tune they want to sing. Then I made them to sing all together with the action like in the laptop. I learned that children picked up the tune more quickly when they listen to the rhyme that is shown with action and pictures with music. They really had fun in learning through the use of ICT than when we sing to them. All most all the children could sing confidently with correct tunes which made my work easier as I don’t have to shout to control my class. For the children who need to practice more I told them to browse that rhymes at home as many of their parents has smart phone at home.

I learned that our children learn faster through ICT use and it reduces our work load. We don’t have to worry about the tunes and our voice. Our children take interest in learning when we use ICT. Lastly if we are not sure about the tunes for our rhymes we can always look for the correct tunes.

    ICT is an unavoidable tool which we can bring multiple changes. As stated, one aporooriate method to teach rhyme is through ict. We can teach pronunciation, improves their vocabulary and so on. Keep on exploring to keep on track. Let us enter into ict world.keep it up.

    Good strategy to teach reading for the children madam. Your strategy might have worked very well. I think through your strategy, children might have felt respected and valued, because you did not impose them to sing the rhyme with your tone. Since they were made to sing the rhyme with their own tone, they will first feel that they are valued, when they are motivatrd, they can read the words.

    I also teach in ICT every time I teach the rhyme as now though its difficult to get adjusted with the IT class but I make sure some how I do teach.
    And here I know how fast children learn with the correct pronunciation and intonation.
    According to your statement up there..
    I am glad I am.also.doing the right thing.

    Through action and voice children can do many things. You have used this skill in your lesson and I came to know that children learn faster and interested through actions. You even played different tunes so that children can choose easiest one. The choice is given, Good.
    I think it will more effective if you have use projector so that your children will see more clear compare to laptop.

    Teaching rhymes through ict has become so popular these days. Our children can learn tune and lyrics together. BY looking at your class size I would recomment you to try through projector or use more number of laptops.Great work keep it up!!!

    Thanks to all my friends for your wonderful comments .I too thought of using projector but our projector is not in working condition so i used my laptop only.Next time when our projector works i will surely use it.

    Teaching through rhymes and songs make a lesson very intersting. More over applying of ict skill in classroom teaching is much more than what students really fond of learning. So inspiration lesson!
